When you set up a POS or ERP system, one important decision is where it runs: on a computer in your office (on-premise) or on a server accessed over the internet (cloud). Each has advantages.
On-premise
Software installed on your own computer or local server keeps working even when the internet is down, and your data stays on your premises.
However, you are responsible for backups, hardware maintenance and security, and accessing data from outside the office is harder.
Cloud
Cloud software can be accessed from anywhere: the shop, the factory, or your phone at home. Backups and updates are handled centrally, and multiple branches can share the same data easily.
The trade-off is that you need a reliable internet connection, and there may be a monthly hosting cost.
Hybrid setups
Many businesses use a hybrid approach: billing works offline at the counter and syncs to the cloud when the internet is available. This gives speed and reliability along with remote access.
How to decide
- How reliable is your internet connection?
- Do you need access from multiple locations or from your phone?
- Who will manage backups and maintenance?
